Introduction
When a group of people come together dwells a definite territory and shares some common idiosyncratic characteristics is called community. Human being is a social animal and loves to live in a society. Community is a social unity. The terms group, community and community organisation are not the same. Basically a group is an assembly of individuals whereas a community is a accumulation of groups. The community is a social coherence having some basic features like:- Community Sentiment, Particular Name, Group, Locality, Permanency and Similarity etc.
What is community organisation?
Community organisation
defines when a community being organized for improving the community’s
spiritual, cultural, economical, social health, education, geographical and overall function of the community.
There are large numbers of definitions has been given by many authors on Community Organisation. The two definitions on Community Organisation are given below.
1. Murray G Ross, "Community organisation is a process by which a community identifies its needs or objectives, gives priority to them, funds resources to deal with them and in doing so, extends and develops cooperative and collaborative attitude and practices in the communities."
2. Kramer and Specht, "They defined that "Community organisation refers to intervention where a professional change agent helps a community action systems composed of individuals, groups or organization to engage in planned collection action in order to deal with special problems within the democratic system of values".

Characteristics of community organisation
There are eight characteristics of a community organisation should have and those are as given below
- Its nature should be related to only and only to the community and its problems
- There should be a goal and objectives in the community organization
- To achieve the goal there should be a set of principle in the community organization
- The members should respect the values and functions of the community
- The objective should be related to the social welfare of the people
- There should be good interpersonal and intergroup relationship in the community organization
- Community organization goal setting should be identified in the need basis
- The members should cooperate and collaborate to its activities to achieve the organization goal
Concept of Community Organisation
Community Organisation concept can be understood in three aspects as follows:-
1. Community organisation helps to solve the problems
Since the community is the accumulation of groups have different thoughts, feelings and Ideas. Sometimes it creates conflicts in the community and kills the peace and harmony in the community. The community is being organized because there are problems in the community. The simplest meaning of community organisation is to help the community and solve its problems. The main objective of the community organization is to strengthen the community and to develop the capacity of the community to be more organized and will solve its problems by own.
2. Community organisation guided by set of principles
Just collection of individuals or groups in a particular place can not be called organized. The community organization is well established with some set of principles and social norms and condition. It increases the values of the community, teaches disciplines and makes free from corruption, nepotism and exploitation. An individual or the organization there should be a set of principles and it will guide the growth and development of an individual or community.
3. Community organisation designs a social structure
Community is a group of individuals and it is not organized. A community will be called as community organisation when it ensure the following components: Interaction among people, resolve the community issues, formation of new groups, integration of the exciting institution, institute to meet the changing condition.

Role of a social worker in the community organisation
The professional and
skillful social worker plays a vital role in community organisation. He tries
to help himself and guide the community to lead a satisfactory life style. The
community organization worker should have full knowledge of self and community.

worker’s primary role is to guide the community, to help the community to
establish the goals and find out the means of achieving those goals. He assists the community to find out the resources
and show the path of success of community organisation. To achieve the objectives of the community
the social worker should be acceptable and loveable by the people. He guide the
community what to do and what not to do. He clarifies to the community regarding
his purpose, objectives, activities and means of achieving it. He acts as
guidance for the community to achieve their objectives. He takes the success
and the failure with him as a true mantor.

The second important role
of a social worker in the community organisation is to enable to the
community. He simplifies the whole
process and solves the conflict raised in the community. He identifies the
problems, dissatisfactions, conflicts between the groups and solves it with
effectively. He promotes the interpersonal relationship within and between the
groups and creates the harmonica relations among the community. He always guide
the community in a positively to achieve the community goals.

to achieve his goal. He is expert of community diagnosis, research skills,
information about the community, technical information and evaluation

As a social counselor he tries to eliminate the negative thoughts and conflicts from the community and brings them in a organisational manner to achieve the

Coordination function
A social worker knows the needs and resource
availability of its community. The community is based on diversity of groups
and thoughts. The social workers balance the diversity and respect the
integrity of the community to achieve the goal of the community.
Research function
The
social worker is good researcher he always search different alternatives
programmes to achieve the community goal. He chose the best programme for the
community since he has close information and knowledge about the community.
Leadership and promotional function
The
social worker is good leader and he promotes leadership quality among the
members of the community. He motives and guides the members to achieve the
community organisational goal. He encourages the community members
to solve the problems collectively. The social worker engages the members in
different activities in the community and it boosts the member’s inner
leadership quality.
Administrative function
Success of any welfare
programmes the administration function plays a vital role. The social worker
plays as an efficient administrator in the community organization to discharge
the administrative function. As an administrator he provides office and
administration support to either the team or the individual member. The administration function
is more important for the smooth running of the programmes in the community
organisation.
Coordination between different programmes
The social worker is a skillful
coordinator and he tries to maintain the coordination between the members and
programmes. The main motive of the social worker is to execute the multitude of
programmes to achieve the community organisational goal. He thinks scientifically
and coordinate the programmes a systematic so that the programme will not be
overlapping or left out any programmes.
Development of community consciousness
The major function of a
social worker is to spread awareness among the community members. In the
community there are many groups existing and they have different of ideas,
views and thoughts etc. As a social worker he should be a great communicator
and influencer to convey the organisation’s mission and vision to the community
members.
Evaluation of programme
The social worker reviews
his programmes and evaluates his achievement. He gets energetic by having reviewed
to his programmes and he aspires to improve the programmes. He collect the feedbacks from the members of the community and accepts it positively to develop his action plan.
